Shaped by the largest type you can justify.
An editorial system with almost no furniture: no rounded corners, no shadows, no filled buttons. Scale carries the hierarchy, an unusually open body leading carries the reading, and one hot orange carries every action on the page.
The display serif is Light and never gets heavier. A heading earns attention by being 120px, not by being bold. This only works if the page gives it room, so sections are tall and mostly empty.
Body copy runs 20px over 38px — a leading of 1.9, far looser than the 1.5 most sites settle on. It reads slowly and calmly, and it is the single choice that most defines the feel.
Every corner in the system is square. The only curve is a full circle, on avatars. Buttons are hairline outlines, never fills, so the orange stays a line of type rather than a slab of color.
The reference site licenses Freight Big Pro, Freight Text Pro and Futura PT. This system substitutes open equivalents — Cormorant Garamond for the light display serif and its italic, Source Serif 4 for the text face, Jost for the geometric label sans. Cormorant runs small and very light: at 32px and below, step up one size or move to weight 400.
