Classical Christian education, grounded in the Word of God — preparing the next generation of free thinkers, creators, and leaders. This document defines how Athanasius College presents itself to the world it stands against, and for.
The classical-college market speaks in a narrow visual dialect: navy and crimson, shields and colonial serifs, the iconography of medieval heraldry and the American founding. Hillsdale, Patrick Henry, and Grove City own that territory. Athanasius College does not need to rent space in it.
This identity claims the lane no competitor occupies: Alexandria, not Oxford. The college is named for a patriarch of the city whose lighthouse was a wonder of the ancient world — and it now stands in a lighthouse city on another coast. The visual language is patristic rather than medieval: a deep coastal petrol instead of navy, Roman inscriptional capitals instead of colonial script, Greek anchors — Α and Ω — beside the Latin motto. Fourth-century confidence, not eighteenth-century nostalgia.
A single letter, crowned by the Cross, standing against the world — the light of the Word on the Gulf coast.
The mark is the Roman inscriptional capital A — the letter carved, not styled — with a gold Latin cross rising through it from behind. The cross is not an ornament laid on top: it stands behind the letter and crowns it, the way the lantern crowns a lighthouse tower. Where the letter opens, the gold shows through — the light inside the letterform.
Read it from the ground up: the letter is the college; the Cross carries it, exceeds it, and is visible within it. Contra mundum is the stance; pro Christo is the reason.
Two lockups and a wordmark cover every format. The stacked lockup is primary — use it wherever space allows. The horizontal lockup serves navigation bars, letterheads, and wide formats. The wordmark stands alone where the mark already appears nearby.
The seal is the college's formal instrument — diplomas, transcripts, the president's letterhead, wax and foil. Its density signals age and authority; the logo system signals approachability. Keep them in their lanes and each makes the other stronger.
At the centre, the Beacon A radiates seven rays of light over the open Word — the Scriptures whose canon Athanasius was first to define, in his 39th Festal Letter of AD 367. Α and Ω flank the letter: the deity of Christ he spent five exiles defending. The rim carries the motto in inscriptional Latin — V for U, as it would have been carved — and the founding year in Roman numerals.
Deep coastal petrol — not navy — is the flag. Vermeil gold is the single accent: it appears in exactly one place per composition (the cross, a rule, a motto), never as a field. Limestone replaces white wherever warmth is wanted; porphyry — the stone of emperors and patriarchs — is reserved for regalia and rare moments of gravity.

Cinzel descends from Roman inscriptional capitals — letters cut into stone columns — so the wordmark and the headings share a literal ancestor with the mark. EB Garamond carries running text with humanist warmth. Inter serves interfaces and forms. All three are open-licensed and web-loadable: zero licensing cost, no font dependency in the logo files (all type is outlined).
Every file is outlined vector — no font needed to reproduce the logo anywhere. Fonts for typesetting are free: Cinzel, EB Garamond, Inter.
